Central University of Kashmir (formerly known as the Central University of Jammu and Kashmir) was established in March 2009 with the appointment and joining of Prof. Abdul Wahid Qureshi , a noted academician and the former Vice Chancellor of University of Kashmir, as the First Vice Chancellor.
The administrative office setup at 101, Baghi-Hyder, Hyderpora in May 2009 started functioning with a skelton staff engaged on deputation/ contract basis

Central University of Kashmir (formerly known as the Central University of Jammu and Kashmir) was established in March, 2009 with the appointment and joining of Prof. Abdul Wahid Qureshi , a noted academician and the former Vice Chancellor of University of Kashmir, as the First Vice Chancellor.
    The administrative office setup at 101, Baghi-Hyder, Hyderpora in May, 2009 started functioning with a skelton staff engaged on deputation/ contract basis.
    Substantive appointments to various administrative posts including First Registrar, Deputy Registrar, Assisstant Registrar were made in June, 2010.
    Common Entrance Test for admission to MBA, M.Sc I.T & M.A.English programmes was conducted on 19 & 20 June at 30 centers across India in colloboration with 6 other Central Universities.
    Transit Campus of the University was setup at Sonwar in August, 2010.
    A boys hostel was set up at Sonwar to facilitate the students coming from different parts of the State/Country.
    Transport facility was put up in place to facilitate the communication of students to and from the University in February, 2011.
    The work related to the demarcation of the land for University Campus at Ganderbal and preparation of Contour maps was allotted to CPWD.
    Three more Masters programmes Economics, Mathematics, Convergent Journalism and one Integrated BALLB programme were offered from Academic Session 2011.
    An Academic block of the University along with a boys and a girls hostel was established at Magarmal Bagh.
    Substantive appointments to various teaching positions in Management Studies, English, Information Technology, Law, Convergent Journalism and Mathematics were made in February, 2012.
    Three more Masters programmes Urdu, Education and Tourism Management were launched for Academic Session 2012.

The University will offer innovative courses for complimenting the efforts of the already existing Universities in the State. Recruitment of the faculty and the admission of the students will be on all-India basis, adhering to reservation policy of Central Government. National-level entrance examination for admission will be held by the University at many centers across the country. The University will be having following essential features that have been conceived befitting international standards School system to encompass related Centres with appropriate structures for administration to facilitate Choice Based Credit System in letter and spirit. To enlarge curricular space and to encourage accelerated learning opportunities, all the programmes will be Semester based.
    With a focus on the holistic personality development of the students, all the academic programmes will be having Core, Elective, Skill-based and Social-orientation courses.
    Regular updation and revision of the curricula will be carried out in terms of Current knowledge national and international developments, and relevance of new ideas, concepts and knowledge to the concerned discipline.
    Aiming to assess values, skills and knowledge imbibed by students, Continuous Internal Assessment will be ensured.
    University level Centres like University-Industry-Community-Interaction Centre (UICIC), Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Student's Guidance and Counseling Centre, ICT Facilitation Centre for teaching technology tools & website maintenance and networking of campus and departments, E-governance Facilitation Centre to coordinate electronic administration as end-to-end solution and the Student Placement Cell to be part of the University set up.
    Students to be offered 'A' Grade facilities of library, internet, cafeteria, health club, hostel and transport services. Assured scholarship to all the admitted research scholars.
    Campus to be developed on the modern design with features of green campus and energy efficient buildings. Provision for future expansion and space economy to be integral components of the plan.
    Campus to be equipped with an Integrated Security/Surveillance System using latest technological tools like Smart Cards (biometric), Electronic Intrusion Detection Systems, CCTV etc.

 

Facilities:


Hostel :
To provide safe, secure and affordable residential accommodation to the students who come from far flung places of the State and country to this apex centre of learning, the Central University of Kashmir has set-up a hostel at its Transit Campus, Sonawar.  The university hostel is set-up in a three storeyed structure that is aesthetically laid out with plenty of open space and a lush green lawn in its front. The hostel possesses all kinds of amenities for making the living of the boarders comfortable and enjoyable.  The rooms are well ventilated and airy and installed with fans, CFL tube lights and comfortable furniture.  The hostel has well equipped Mess, Kitchen and Dinning Hall.  Safe drinking water is available by means of aquagurad and water purifiers installed in the mess and dining hall of the hostel.  For the comfort of the students, decent sitting arrangements have been made.   Dining Chairs and dining tables have been placed in the dining hall and each inmate is provided a bed, a mattress, a study chair and a table in the room.  The hostel is also equipped with sports/recreational facility (T.T/Badminton/Chess/Carrom etc.).  Local/national newspapers are also subscribed with a view to bring the overall development of personality of the boarders into play.   

 
Transport :

To facilitate the commutation of student to and from University, the University has put in place a transport facility for students by purchasing/hiring buses that ply on various routes opted for by the students. The transport is made available to the students at a subsidized rate.


Browsing Center :

The Computer /Browsing Centre is established with a view to facilitate, foster, and support the essential teaching and research goals of Central University of Kashmir through the deployment and delivery of computing and communication services to the university's faculty, staff, and students. As part of teaching process, students have access to computers for their course or project work. Its facilities are also used in work related to administration such as recruitment, academic, examinations, finance etc. Currently, the Centre has various kinds of systems which provide UNIX, Linux, Windows environment to the users. The transit node operational at the computer centre is also providing Email/Internet services to its students. The Centre is having Internet/Email, Programming, and Word processing rooms to enable users to execute various tasks.




Library :
The Central University of Kashmir has setup a Library at Transit campus Srinagar to provide access to the faculty members, students, and staff of the University. In a short span of few months the library has procured more than 2500 Text & Reference books on Management, Information Technology, English Literature, Law, Economics, and Mathematics etc. The Library has also setup a Career Corner & procured books related to these Competitive examinations for the students who wish to appear in various Competitive examinations at national and international level (IAS, IFS, KAS, NET, SET, GRE, GMAT, TOEFL, CAT, MAT etc). The Library is subscribing to various magazines and daily newspapers. The University has access to about 500/- e-journals and few electronic databases under the UGC- INFONET Digital Library Consortium of INFLIBNET Currently online journals from the following publishing houses can be accessed:

How To Reach Us :


Air link: The Transit Campus of the University is located at a distance 14 kilometers from Srinagar International Airport. Daily flights are available from New Delhi, Mumbai and Jammu to the Airport with flight duration of 1 hour from New Delhi. In addition, weekly international flights from Dubai are currently being operated by Air India.

Rail link. The railway link of Northern India terminates at Udhampur, Jammu located at a distance of 233 kilometers from the Srinagar city. The rest distance to the Kashmir can be covered by road up to Qazigund, wherefrom regular trains ply on an Intra-Valley Rail link to Baramulla through Srinagar city. The nearest railway station (Nowgam) to the Transit Campus in the valley is located at distance of 9 kilometers.

Road link: The Transit Campus of the University is located at Sonwar (near G.B.Pant Hospital) on the National Highway at a distance of 300 kilometers from Jammu. Regular Bus and Taxi service is available from New Delhi & Jammu. The trip is a soul refreshing journey as the road meanders through the picturesque areas.
