About Central University of Karnataka

The Central University of Karnataka (CUK) has been established by an Act of the Parliament (No. 3 of 2009) at Gulbarga, Karnataka. It is one of the 16 new Central Universities established by the Government of India during the UGC XI Plan Period to address to the concerns of ‘equity and access’ and to increase the access to quality higher education by people in less educationally developed districts which have a Graduate Enrolment Ratio of less than the national average of 11%.

The CUK, with its territorial jurisdiction all over Karnataka has been initiated  its activities from the academic year beginning August 2009 in keeping with the philosophy of achieving and maintaining the highest levels of academic excellence, sensitivity to equity and access in enrolment and recruitment and emerging as a premier national educational and research institution in the country.

621 acres of land at Kadaganchi Suntanur villages on the Gulbarga-Waghdhari Inter-State Highway in Aland taluka identified by the Karnataka State Government has been handed over to the university, where the work of construction of boundary wall is nearing completion and work on various buildings for the first phase of campus development will begin soon.  The university is functioning from its temporary premises at the IInd floor of Karya Soudha, Gulbarga University Campus where the administrative office, classrooms, library, computer lab and other infrastructure is presently located.

Central University of Karnataka Computer Lab
The CUK Computer Centre is well equipped with modern computing facilities for students and researchers. Its information technology based learning solutions, multimedia experience, e-resources and high speed internet connectivity over 1Gbps are useful instruments for enlarging students overall knowledge and perspectives.
The computer centre is member of Information and Library Network Centre (INFLIBNET) that ensure students access to online journals services covering J-STOR, Economic and Political Weekly (EPW), Taylor and Francis, Cambridge University and so on.
LAN:
The building wide computer network - Computer Lab, faculty rooms, Library, Administration and Section Office are connected to the LAN, through Cat-6 Cable, high-speed CISCO switches and Router.
Internet
1Gbps internet access is well utilized by both the students, research scholars, faculty, administrative officers and non-teaching.


Library
The Central University of Karnataka Library, Gulbarga, provides access to information not just to widen the horizons of the users’ knowledge but also to support a host of their learning activities that range from book learning and newspaper reading to using e-journals and reading e-books. Librarians are not just the gatekeepers here but the facilitators in a larger process aimed at improving the quality of life of the individual. We are driven by the motto to strive hard with commitment and dedication, which requires team spirit and tenacity to serve the strategic information requirements of the academic community on a continual basis pin-pointedly, exhaustively and expeditiously.

The CUK Library aims to be a leading academic research library in the area. The eclectic collection that constitutes the Library currently includes over 4,500 books. The Library resources comprise Encyclopaedias, Dictionaries on various subjects, general collections, valuable source books, critical works as well as specific skills-related books on Personality Development, Time Management and Communication Skills. The Library subscribes to research e-journals, besides subscribing to daily news papers, magazines and journals.


Hostel

Boys Hostel, Central University of Karnataka, Gulbarga
The Central University of Karnataka Boys Hostel is housed at Visvesvaraya Technological University, Regional Centre, Gulbarga. The university campus is under construction and at present university has made temporary hostel arrangements for the limited number of students. The present hostel consists of 60 single rooms including the mess premise.
Each Room:
Well-furnished and spacious rooms are there for 60 boys. Each room is equipped with a cot, study table and study chair.
Boys Hostel Rules and Regulations:
    Every student shall be required to maintain a high standard of discipline and be respectful for the institute, teachers, warden and conduct himself in a dignified manner.
    Guests are not allowed to stay in the hostel room.
    No female guests shall be allowed to enter in the boys’ hostel.
    Students are not allowed to interchange rooms without a written permission from the warden.
    Students are not allowed to use electric appliances such as heater, toaster, iron etc. within the hostel.
    Students shall check electric fittings, furniture and other articles issued to them at the time of allotting the rooms. They have to pay for damage/shortage if any, before leaving the hostel.
    While leaving the rooms for classes etc., student should ensure that light and fans in the room are switched off. Transfer of furniture from one room to another is not allowed.
    No meeting of any kind is permitted within the hostel prior permission from the warden.
    Gambling, smoking and use of intoxicants and addictive drugs are strictly prohibited.
    Students are not permitted to keep fire-arms or any other type of lethal weapon.
    Students shall not be allowed to leave station without written permission from the warden.
    Warden is authorized to open ever locked room in case of emergency.
    Students shall not remain outside the hostel after 9:00 pm without prior permission from the warden.
    The warden can search any room at any time.
    Students shall not be allowed to paste any poster or paintings on the walls of the room in hostel.
    Ragging is strictly prohibited as per directives of the govt. Any student found involved in ragging shall be severely punished even to the expulsion from the institute.
    Students shall not be allowed to take part in any political activities and in any subversive forum or any kind of strike etc.
    Students desiring to go outside the campus are advised to fill the entries in the register available with the gate keeper.
    University reserves the right to withhold the results of any semester/course of a hosteller who has not cleared all hostel fees/dues in time. The warden shall bring such cases to the knowledge of Controller of examinations/Registrar for necessary action
    Students should abide by the rules and regulations of the University as well as any other rules notified from time to time by the hostel warden.
